Research paper proposals should start with a brief title, abstract, and
a few sources. Then, all students should submit a revised proposal, reflecting changes made
in consultation with the professor. Revised proposals may be submitted
on paper or via e-mail. Each proposal MUST have the following
elements:
Header Information: Student Name, HIST 717 Spring 2001 Research
Paper Proposal, Date.
Title--a specific, descriptive title with a little bit of style.
Abstract--a 200 word abstract
explaining the topic in some detail. The abstract should be detailed
enough to convey the specific approach taken to the topic in the title.
Sources--bibliography
listing at least ten secondary sources and the type
and location of the primary sources to be used. This should conform to the
Department of History Style Guide. Primary sources should include the
repository's name (e.g., U.S. National Archives), collection name and number
(e.g. National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics, Record Group 255), and a
brief description of the particular sources to be used.
Permission
to Post on Web Site (optional)--"I, (insert your name), give my
permission for this proposal to be posted on the HIST 717 Web Site."
