Broad Overview

The problem statement for my thesis is not yet crisp and precise enough to be made public (Funny part is that I never got around having a precise problem statement and then working on it :-), it has been incrementally developing). Yet I can definitely elabroate on the idea. The interesting aspect of research is that you never know what is precise enough and you tend to move into so many different directions. With Sensor Networks itself, I was like sometimes towards data routing, sometimes towards simulation framework, sometimes towards some theoretical stuff and what not. This is the trauma that one has to face when trying to do research. There are two streams of thoughts currently.

What looks most imminent right now is the MagicWeaver, the simulation framework that I have developed, be expanded to a full-fledged distributable version of the package. Altough the current version supports a lot of abstract models for sensor networks, there are certain nitty gritties to be fixed and certain models need more realistic view. I might be working on this and take it on as my Masters thesis.

What I have in mind, is complete the implemenation of MagicWeaver and define the complete scope. Once that is done, compare the performance results it gives with SensorSim, the standard ns-2 based sensor networks simulator available from UCLA.

On second lines, I am thinking of going towards my original idea of devising a data propagation scheme what is either new or modified version of currently existing schemes. By the end of winter, I plan to have a concrete idea of which direction I will be moving and YES I have. I am taking MagicWeaver further for my Masters Thesis. Currently its a full-fledged general purpose simulator and I am trying to give it focus in terms of providing support for Streaming Applications and Querying Interface.
