Research
I am a Master's student under Dr.Kalpakis.
My research involves , trying to understand the requirements and
solutions for positions of data nodes in the network. We also look into the
Adaptive data replication techniques and decision for optimal placements
of replicas.
Spring 2001:
We looked into the algorithms of Reed and Nice tree for tree
decomposition of the network represented by graphs.
I used c/c++ to model the tree decompositions of internet backbone maps
using LEDA class libraries.
Summer 2001:
I am currently looking into the role of Network attached storage
devices/ Network attached peripherals and their underlying algorithms in
the network.
Interesting work going on at other places are:
I am also currently looking into the data replication simulator built
in Java developed in my lab.
I also developed a protoptype for Web Server Redirection. When a client
issues a request for a file, request first goes to the server (obviously
called Redirector). Redirector looks up its database and finds that the
particular file request can be satisfied by Server A, and hence forwards
the request for file F to Server A. Server A then sends the required file
to the client. The servers storing files have capabilities to add/ delete
file provided that they send the information to the Redirector. The
constraints of problem was, Servers satisfying the requests were supposed
to be non intelligent, hence use of servlets was strict no.
I have also started thinking about my Master's thesis. Hopefully, I
should start working on it and finish the work in Fall 2001 itself.
Fall 2001:
I have obtained OPNET modeler and also
Server's licence under university program of the company.
I have developed a bare prototype for Network Attached Storage Device. I
will be adding the functionalities of
- NFS filesystem application modeling
- Profiles of users in the Network (To be able to create Work Load in
the Network based on the activity of user, i.e., if he is a student, DBA
etc).
- To scale the prototype to multiple Storage devices in the Network
- To create a Packet Filter below the IP layer to act as a fast
redirector
Spring 2002
We developed a simulator for Network Attached storage devices in broadcast
medium using Java. I also implemented a proof of concept by using the
underlying concepts and algorithms to the Web Servers using Java Server
Pages, Java and MySQL. For more details please download paper by clicking
here.
It was published in the Proceedings the 2002 International Symposium on
Performance Evaluation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems
(SPECTS'02), July 14-18, 2002, San Diego, CA. pp. 736-743.
Summer 2002
Worked as an intern, developing an Email Marketing Software at Blue Sky Factory. The existing
software was in Cold Fusion and SQL Server 7.0. We decided it might be a
good idea to devlop the same software using open source development tools.
Hence, it was ported to Java Server Pages (JSP) and MySQL as backend.
Fall 2002
I am currently a Teaching Assistant for CMSC 202 :Introduction to Computer
Science II course for section 101 under Mr.Dennis Frey. My discussions are
held on Tuesdays at 4:00 -4:50 pm at SS 206. My office hours are at 5:00pm
- 8:00pm on Tuesdays at ECS334. I can be contacted during office hours by
phone at x52862.
