ENGL648 E-Necessities

1) If you don't already have an email account through UMBC, then get one immediately. You'll need this for communicating with class, putting up your own website, accessing myUMBC, and accessing information through UMBC library, including downloading full-text articles. Very handy for research.

Visit Email Accounts at the Office of Information Technology's (OIT) website.

2) Subscribe to class email list.

As soon as you have a UMBC email account, go visit Listproc @ UMBC and read about email lists. To subscribe to our class list, simply click on the new web interface at lpUMBC and fill in the class list name: engl648. The nice thing about the new interface is that it allows you to manage all lists you're subscribed to at UMBC.

3) Ensure that you have a userid and password for OldPuebloMOO, where I'll hold office hours. (Visit my page on Office Hours for more information.)

As soon as you have a UMBC email account, please send me your userid and name. I will send this information to the OldPuebloMOO administrators, who will then send me userids and passwords for each of you. Once you logon to OldPuebloMOO, you'll be able to change both userid and password.

4) Subscribe to an email discussion list that focuses on literature from an area of the world you would like to further explore.

I'll have a selection of these lists posted soon, but please be on the lookout for relevant lists to share with the rest of us. Much of what you learn from these lists will contribute to our summer course on world literature.
