Paul Schou „skow“

Welcome to my webpage. I have been a graduate student at UMBC since 2006 and my plans are to continue in physics to get a graduate level degree and then work for a scientific institution doing research work. I work with the Atmospheric Lidar Group (ALG) in collecting LiDAR data and writing code to analyze this data. One can often find me in front of my computer hastily trying to figure out a problem or writing new code to do modeling or analysis. My preferred operating systems are Debian and MacOS X. This is mostly because I script much of my work and develop models which often take large amounts of computation time and memory.

Involvement

• Atmospheric Lidar Group - I am involved in research with the atmospheric lidar group here at UMBC.
• Linux Users Group - A general member and support person for newbies starting out with Linux.
• Ham radio operator - Local ham radio operator, I love to do fox hunts.
• Charm City Swing - I love to dance and you can often find me one night a week at a local dance hall. Charm City Swing has all flavors of swing including East/West coast and Lindy hop.
• Baltimore Swing - Here's another linke, this is for East coast swing in Towson. I love East coast swing and aerials.
• Latin Palace - I also love the international classics such as Salsa, Waltz, Renge, and Tango.

Recent Accomplishments

• Weather.umbc.edu - Helped redo the UMBC weather page to its present form with adding many new services to the UMBC community. Read about it here (html) or here (pdf, page 2).
• Physics colloquia - Wrote scripts to handle announcements and live updating / vcal syncing.
• Physics qualifiers / PPOTW - Help UMBC physics graduate students prepare for qualifiers by providing study materials and practice problems.
