SSFRAS Society For Recursive Acro-Speak

Okay, this is a joke.

Recursive acro-speak is the act of creating an acronym that includes itself recursively in its definition, and using it in everyday conversation or correspondence.

"Recursive" means, simply, self-referential. For instance, the Fibonacci series is defined by a function, F(n), that is defined by an invocation of itself on different values. This type of function is also known as a difference equation or a recurrence relation:

In the case of acronyms, SSFRAS is defined using head-recursion, meaning the first element is recursively defined. Specifically, SSFRAS is defined as "SSFRAS Society For Recursive Acro-Speak," which is defined as "SSFRAS Society For Recursive Acro-Speak Society For Recursive Acro-Speak," and so on.

The concept is originally attributed to Dilbert, but recently rejuvenated by my colleague, Jon F., and myself.

[There is no Society; however, do not let this small detail dissuade you from making a donation :-]
