Evaluation of Xuezhen Kang’s
website -
Continuous Cultivation and
Related Bioreactors
In
my overall estimation, the website is good!
Here are my comments:
Positives:
·
Assuming
it is targeted to science focused high school students or freshman-year college
students, the material is consistent with that level of knowledge.
·
This
site gives a good basis of understanding what continuous culture is, why it
would be used, etc. It is very
thorough!
·
I
liked the split window effect… it makes the website easy to navigate.
·
The
style is consistent throughout the whole site.
·
The
quiz window at the end was a really cool addition!
Negatives:
·
It
seems like most of your information was revised from a textbook posted on the
web. Although you did include a couple
of new pages, it was not very original.
Perhaps you could add comments that show your evaluation of the material, and links to other sites with more
in-depth information for further reference.
·
Also,
you should include a reference on every
window which contains copied information.
·
The
grammar in the index page isn’t so good.
Have someone proof-read the website for correct grammar.
·
On
the start page (index), you need to remove your links called: links,
references, and outline. These look
like what you used when you were working on the site, and don’t belong in the
finished product.
Other Suggestions for
Improvement:
·
The
way you have the website organized makes the viewer remember which sub-page
they were on before they go to the next page.
Many people like the web because they can sort-of “veg.-out” when they
browse. (This means that people don’t
like having to think a whole lot when they “surf” the web.) It would be better to also have a link
called “NEXT” that links to the following page in the progression.
·
Font
appears really large. You could reduce
the font size significantly and it would still be readable, but easier to see
more of the document.
·
I
personally didn’t care for the pink background on the left window. A different color scheme might look more
professional… but that is just a personal taste of mine.
·
With
the way your website flows, it might be nice to have a summary window at the
very end.
