Out-of-Class Events (possible extra credit--10 points)
Approved out-of-class events are posted on this website. I am open to additional suggestions, but all out-of-class presentations must be approved by me before I will offer credit. You will need to submit an evaluation of each event, NOT simply a summary. What did YOU think of the presentation? What were its strengths and weaknesses? Remember, you must submit an evaluation to my email account lindenme@umbc.edu within one week of the event in order to earn credit. You may earn up to 10 extra credit points (each event is worth up to 5 points). Be sure to frequently check this page for new opportunities. You must send me your evaluation within one week of the event in order to earn points. All Humanities Forum and Social Science Forum Events are eligible for extra credit (even those not listed on this webpage). I've highlighted a few of particular interest below.

Brian McGinty, John Brown's Trial.
Attorney Brian McGinty recounts the trial of abolitionist John Brown who led an attack on the U.S. armory and arsenal in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, on October 16, 1859. Brown, who led twenty-one men in the attack, intended to foment a slave rebellion in Virginia. Following his capture Brown went to trial and was hanged in Charles Town, West Virgina, on December 2, 1859. Mr. McGinty discusses the John Brown trial from the court house where it took place in Charles Town, West Virginia.
