Harris/English    JOB APPLICATION AND FOLLOW-UP LETTER, RÉSUMÉ

GUIDELINES: Using the WWW, search for a job that you are currently qualified for or will qualify for when you graduate. Alternately, you can use this assignment to fulfill the Shriver Center requirements for co-op or internship positions or to write to a company when you are not sure if there are any openings.

Apply for this job by writing a job application letter. Choosing one of the types of follow-up letters, write one to the same person you sent the application letter to. If you used an attention line in the application letter, you should address the follow-up letter to a specific person (even if you have to invent one). Submit an advertisement or a job announcement from the WWW or a copy of the Shriver Center guidelines along with the letters.

Along with the two letters, submit a traditional, scanned, or web résumé.

AUDIENCE: the person mentioned in the job announcement (or an appropriate department or division if you cannot discover a name)

LENGTH: one page each for the application and follow-up letters. Also complete the audience analysis found at Audience Analysis Questions describing who you believe your audience is, what that person knows about the position, and what you will need to tell him/her about your qualifications.   You should discover this information during the pre-writing stage.   Without this information, the highest grade your work will receive is B+.

MECHANICS: There should be NO errors in grammar, spelling and punctuation. Each error will decrease your grade by one point.
