Definition Exercise

Today, you will write a practice extended definition. The term you define can be a slang term (ex. "knuckle up, slammin'"), a character type [most of these also qualify as slang] (ex. "tree hugger, nerd, geek"), or a term used just within your family (ex. "tap dancing").

To see some examples of slang from the 1920's, check out this site: Internet Guide to Jazz Age Slang

The practice definition should have at least four sections:

Each section should be at least one paragraph long. If you have a great deal of information, then the section can contain multiple paragraphs.

Send your exercise to the Blackboard Discussion Board.

Possible Terms

You do not have to write about one of the terms listed here; the list just gives an idea of the kinds of slang terms people have used in the past.  (The  links take you to practice definitions written in past semesters.  The exercise directions were slightly different from this semester's directions.)
