The Cold War on the Internet

Below is a list of WEB sites which should provide an historical background for understand American films about the Cold War. Browse through each of them, and pay special attention to the links to other Cold War information on the Internet. These selected sites are not exhaustive, but they do offer representative examples of the materials available and provide many links for further study.

Rapier's Cold War Guide. A general guide to people, dates, and events related to the Cold War.
 
David Price's Cold War Links. A good selection of links to Internet sites related to the Cold War. They include a wide variety of topics (from a CIA database to a view of the [poet Alan Ginsberg's America). Much of the information comes from archival sources made available through the Freedom of Information Act.
 
The Woodrow Wilson Center's Cold War Historical Project. The Woodrow Wilson Project is at work collecting and disseminating new information and political perspectives on the Cold War. It is possible to join the site's discussion group where a variety of Cold War issues are explored. The online CWIHP Bulletin and working papers may be downloaded form the site.
 
The Harvard Project on Cold War Studies. The HPCWS supports archival research in the former East-bloc countries and offers resources at Harvard to add new dimensions to that research.
 
The Cold War Museum. The museum encourages research and study on the influence of the Cold War on American society. It also plans to maintain a display of artifacts and memorabilia related to the Cold War.
 
A Military History of the Cold War. This site focuses on the legion of military and civilian cold warriors with special emphasis on the U.S. Air Force. An overview of the era, divided into decades, describes the major events of the era. The site also provides a selection of links to specific subjects.
 
Cold War Espionage Activities. A site devoted to cryptological espionage activities during the early years of the Cold War (through 1954).
 
Cold War Policies, 1946-1991. A good overview of the Cold War with links to prominent people, places, and events. A bibliography and images supplement the essay.
 
The Cold War: An Historical Essay. A general guide to personalities, dates, and nations involved in the Cold War. The general index is very useful.

The Cable News Network's Cold War Documentary. The Cable News Network's companion to its twenty-four episode Cold War series. There is information on the individual episodes, an excellent timeline, and comments on Cold War experiences by viewers.
