Epidemiology

This project considers a large multicompartment epidemiological model of the effects of bisexuality on the spread of incurable sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV and gonorrhea, particularly on the female population. Ph.D. student Evelyn Thomas, co-advised by K. Gurski and myself, has developed intermediate models where the effect of a subpopulation is modeled as a forcing or influence term on the base model. This work has been recognized by eminent scholar in the field, Prof. Carlos Castillo-Chavez, who supported Evelyn through his summer program. Evelyn defended her dissertation Spring 2012 and is currently an instructor at Bennett College.
