My Life

My name is Keilan Freeman, and I am a native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada currently attending my third year of college at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A. I am majoring in mechanical engineering, and carry a cumulative GPA of 4.00 on a 4 point scale. A co-captain of UMBC’s NCAA Division I men’s swimming and diving team, I have been a competitive swimmer since I was 8 years old. My team has won 12 consecutive Conference Championships, and I am proud to say I have been a part of the 2 most recent wins. I am also vice president of my school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council, which serves as the governing body for the student-athlete population as well as the voice of this population to our school’s administration. During my time at school in the U.S.A. I have also become quite talented at speaking “American”, a habit that my friends and family at home love to tease me about.

My other favorite pass-times include wakeboarding, water skiing, camping, traveling, eating, and sleeping. Every summer I travel with my family to either Lake Pend O’reille in Idaho, or Lake Powell on the border between Arizona and Utah to pursue some of these hobbies. I love spending time at both of these lakes and always have a good time while visiting them. As for eating, my favorite foods include baby back pork ribs, steak, and burritos, and I really enjoy restaurants such as Chipotle, TGI Friday’s, and Montana’s. I also have a weakness for ice cream and anything chocolate, and am addicted to deserts from Cold Stone Creamery.

Much to my college roommates’ dismay, I also enjoy playing the piano, the violin, and singing on Guitar Hero. While studying piano and violin under the Royal Conservatory of Music I achieved grade 8 and grade 5 levels of proficiency, respectively. Additionally, I had voice training a few years when I was younger and used to sing the Canadian national anthem at swim competitions.
