There aren't too many artists of notable mention from today, but here's two
that I played who have their music up for free download on the net!
(I played Track 2, "SOS" from this album)
( I played track 1, "Mano De Dios" from this to start the show )
That's all for now, you greedy bastards. You'll just have to wait until next
week for some more free tunes.

A little while ago, I participated in a project known as Classic Doom 3. Long story short, we remade the original id Software game Doom for the newest version of it, as faithfully as possible, while still taking advantage of the eyecandy and abilities of the new engine.
We even "upgraded" the music. Brian "SonicClang" Kline scrubbed all the original tracks with his fine musical ear, and produced an ass-kicking soundtrack to match the updated spirit of Doom.
Anybody who was at least 5 in the 90s probably played Doom, and a lot of these tracks are a great throwback to a more innocent day of MIDI metal and sprite graphics. Highly recommended.

Rock From Under a Rock returned yesterday for the Fall semester. I'll be doing shows every Thursday from 4-5PM (well, not next Thursday, but after that!)
You can tune in at the WMBC website (click Listeners>MP3 Hi-Fi Audio), and you can also chat with me directly from the same site. Tell me you love the music, tell me I suck at DJing, tell me your deep, dark feelings for me. Whatever you want, it's lonely in the booth!
Keep your eyes and ears peeled, because I'll be polluting your mind with unheard rock once again.

A Perfect Circle - Emotive

Thumpermonkey - Bring Me Sun for Breakfast

The Society of Rockets - Where the Grass Grows Black
- Rock enough for any junkie, with enough indie to spice it up some.
The Black Keys - Your Touch EP
- Funky bluesy rock, definitely something to check out.
Sex Machineguns - HEAVY METAL THUNDER
- Japanese speed metal. Found these guys by accident looking for a wikipedia article on Sex Panther (the fake cologne from Anchorman), go figure. It's a little hard to get your hands on their music, but GoMusic has the album.
Andrew W.K. - Party Hard
- Trashy delicious party music. Something that would perfectly accompany a large group of people moshing.
Wil Deynes - STAY EP
- FREE! Very nice sound and such.
The White Stripes - Icky Thump
- It's the White Stripes. To be honest, this isn't even "under a rock." I just felt like playing it, since I found it in the booth.
50 Foot Wave - Golden Ocean
- Not miraculous, but worth a listen. They seem to have a few free songs for download on this site. Enjoy!
The Cure - Join The Dots (B-Sides and Rarities)
- I'm not really that big on The Cure, but I got this CD for the holidays, and really enjoyed the Purple Haze covers on it.
Soraria - Recipe for Disaster
- It seems like every week I'm going to play at least one group that's TOTALLY off the charts. I can't find these guys online anywhere. Pretty cool prog. rock-ish stuff.Mad Caddies - Rock the Plank
- Of course, no show would be complete without the delicious ska-plug. This is definitely my favorite ska band. Ever. No, seriously. This album rules.
Well, that's it for this week. Sorry about the late notes, and see you all next Wednesday.

The Heavy - Great Vengeance and Furious Fire
- AMAZING funky rock. I didn't like the entire album, but "Coleen" is a mandatory listen (it's on their myspace, too!) I'm also pretty sure the album name is a homage to Pulp Fiction, but it could just be un-related biblical stuff.

Purchase album
Love Kills Theory - Happy Suicide Jim
- Most of this album was a little too far-out for me, but "Found" was pleasing to me, because the vocals are very clean and real, and the melodies easy to the ear. Pretty wild stuff, all said.

Dead Meadow - Dead Meadow
- These guys are totally off the internet's radar, as far as I can tell. Which makes sense, because it's reaaaallly crazy stuff. The song I played was "Rocky Mountain High" in case anybody can dig up some info on them. The Evening Rig - Never Been'er
- These guys are awesome! We just got this CD, and I think it was fresh into the database when it got handed to me. Country-inspired rock, can't be beat. I recommend "All the Stars"

Spitvalves - Fine Print at the Bottom
- Cool ska band I found on iTunes while digging through a sea of thousands of other iTunes suggestions (which I do every now and then; honestly, will they ever learn what I like?). It's good stuff, but I recommend against the newer CD in favor of this one.

The Kooks - Inside In Inside Out
- These guys aren't exactly fresh on the scene, but they're new enough. Very good stuff, pretty much any of it is a decent listen.
Band Website
Zwan - Mary Star of the Sea
- One of Billy Corgan's (of Smashing Pumpkins) projects. Just this album, but I really really like one song in particular, and if you like Billy Corgan's voice (I do), the rest is worth a listen.
Band Website
In Parentheses - Sidenotes EP
- A band my friend drums for (O hai thar, fig). Good stuff, kinda mellowed out rock with some non-standard instrumentation (ie. a viola). They're all students, so they don't exactly have a lot of time for music, but the songs are $0.99 apiece, and worth it.

Maxeen - Hello Echo
- The very first track on this album has a xylophone. The novelty of this slays me. Plus, it's pretty catchy.
Band Website
Blindside - Silence
- I hadn't even realized how long I've been listening to these guys, but the CD I have is actually pretty old. I never got the album itself, but I have the 2 song demo, which features "Pitiful" and "Caught a Glimpse" from Silence.

At last, I finally get around to entering a second shownotes post. No blahblah useless crap here, gonna jump right into the music.
Glossary

Awesome southern rock, great vocals and music. Not exactly perfect for hardcore listening, but one or two songs at a time is very relaxing and awesome. Click "download" to get the entire album, "The Better Angels of Our Nature"
I played "Shout It From The Rooftops" off this album.
The Feisty Piranhas

Crazy stuff. Somewhere between progressive, alternative, and experimental music. Labels are bullshit anyway. Bottom line, this group is awesome. No free music here, but it's a very cool album. I highly recommend it.
Like The Kaiser

Local UMBC Band. Thanks to my floormate Jason Poon for turning me on to these guys. Now, you finally know what the hell those orange stickers all over campus really mean!
That's it for now. Live long and prosper, and keep rock alive!

Well, here's the inaugural shownotes blog. I finally got off my ass and got
around to doing some work on my blosxom
templates to get this thing going. I don't have any very specific show notes
for today's show, because I don't remember exactly everything I played, but at
the very least, I can link you to Inrainbows.com so you can check out the new
Radiohead album for whatever you want to pay, including nothing!
Anyway, check here after every show for much more information on who the bands
I played are, where you can find some (free!) music, and anything else I
really feel like putting.
