The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is a Carnegie Research I campus that makes extensive use of technology across all disciplines and departments. My job is to  work closely with my academic and administrative colleagues to understand their needs and work with them to use information technology to advance their teaching, scholarship, or business services.

My professional work has focused on the intersection of the Web, security, identity management, and privacy and how we can build systems that use the web and identity management to develop advanced solutions.  I have been fortunate  to work on a wide array of projects at UMBC, these include:

  1. Connecting UMBC to the NSFnet in 1986

  2. Developing and building our campus network, 1985-93

  3. Building the first web page for UMBC, 1993

  4. Principal Investigator, vBNS grant, 1997

  5. Deploying the myUMBC portal in 1998

  6. Project lead for UMBC middleware initiative, 2000-2004

  7. Project Director, UMBC ERP 2002-2005

  8. High Performance Computing 2006-2009

My profession activities focus on being an active member with our national IT organizations, EDUCAUSE and Internet2, supporting collaboration amongst Maryland institutions through MEEC and UMATS. At UMBC I am on the internal boards of the following groups:

  1. UMBC Center for Women in Information Technology

  2. Imaging Research Center

  3. Center for Art, Design, and Visual Culture
