Getting Out Stains
The most important action for stain removal is to
clean it right away. The stain may become permanent over
time.
The following are steps that can be taken:
- Blot the area with paper towels or a dry, clean
rag.
- If there are any solids, scrape them up with a
spoon or another rounded object.
- If stain is still present, use a spot removal
solution. This can be purchased from any hardware store and most
grocery stores.
- Pretest the solution on carpet, somewhere that
it will not be seen. This is to ensure that the solution will
not damage the carpet in any way. If there is a change in the
carpet, you will need to try a different solution.
- Pour a small amount of the solution onto the
rag. Start at the outside of the stain, working towards the
center, gently rubbing the solution in. Let the solution sit for
a few minutes. Blot with rag.
- Repeat step 5 as long as there is more liquid
from the stain appearing on the rag.
- If the stain is large, and you cannot remove
it, it may be time to call a professional carpet cleaning
company.
