In our work we use Saccharomyces cerevisiae, commonly known as Baker's yeast. Our research is mainly in the discipline of Molecular Genetics. This means that it concerns the process of information transfer, but more specifically post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. Research concerns five principle topics:
- Programmed translational frameshifting
- Frameshift suppression by mutant tRNAs
- The mechanism of translational accuracy both during elongation and during translational initiation
- Regulation of cell cycle progression by specific protein degradation.

Our laboratory is located in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC).
