UMBC Tennis to play Texas A&M first round of NCAA's
April 30, 2003, by Erik Nudo
After defending their title this past weekend in New Jersey for the Northeast Conference Championship, the Retriever men drew Texas A&M to play in the NCAA nationals tournament. This will be the 4th appearance in a row at nationals for the men's team. They had a relatively easy time defending their title defeating Fairley Dickinson University in the championship match this past Sunday. The Retriever's have not been very successful at the national level, but have been knocking at the door to make a name for themselves. Current #1 player Josef Novotny will lead the team to try and pull out their school's first NCAA tournament win in tennis. Novotny gave his opponent from California, Berkley a run for his money last year in the first round. His opponent was ranked #9 in the country at the time, and would have been one of the biggest upsets of tournament.
