Retsuzan Tanabe

 

A Dai-Shihan (grand master) of Tozan Shakuhachi, Retsuzan Tanabe received his first lesson from his father, Keizan. He also studied under Hozan Yamamoto and graduated from the 25 th . class of NHK Hogaku Ginosha Ikuseikai . In addition, Mr. Tanabe holds a BA in philosophy from Chuo University ( Tokyo ).

Retsuzan Tanabe has performed many concerts throughout the world including performances at the Japanese Embassy in Sweden , the Boulder ( Colorado ) International Shakuhachi Festival, the Isamu Noguchi Stone Garden in Tokyo , and the International Symposium at Togoku University in South Korea . Among the concerts, workshops, and lectures that he has produced are “ Shikisai no Ma (space of traditional color),”, “ Oto-asobi (sound playing),” and “ Mizu no oto Genfukei (original soundscape of water).”
