Systems Development
Welcome to the Instructional Technology page of the Education
Department at the University of Maryland,
Baltimore County. It is the main page for the 1-credit practicum course
EDUC791C: Instructional Technology.
"This course is designed to provide the student with practical experience
in observing and analyzing teaching practices and learner development.
The student will be expected to demonstrate their understanding of how
research and theory affect practice in the classroom by applying basic
instructional principles in a carefully supervised setting" (from the
Graduate School Catalog).
The emphasis in this particular course will be on instructional media
and instructional technology. Through several kinds of activities and experiences,
you will demonstrate your understanding of the appropriate use of media
in education and your ability to use and manipulate the technology components
related to these media for instructional purposes.
The course covers the following topics:

Using e-mail

Subscribing to a discussion listserv

Accessing and locating resources on the Internet

Using various levels of technology in the classroom, including

Using the computer in your classroom

Researching technology in the classroom and society
Several assignments are to be "handed in" by electronic mail. For that
reason, it is important that you sign
up for an account at no charge to you, if you do not already have e-mail
and INTERNET access. The package that you want to use for e-mail is called
Pine.
