Dr. Christine Mallinson is an assistant professor in the interdisciplinary Lan
guage, Literacy,and Culture Program and an affiliate assistant professor in the Gender and Women's Studies Program at UMBC. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology & Anthropology, with concentrations in social inequality and sociolinguistics, from North Carolina State University, where she received her M.A. in English/sociolinguistics. Her research connects issues of education, region, language, class, race/ethnicity, and gender, especially as they face African American and Southern English speakers. Currently, she teaches a service-learning course that connects LLC students with teachers at a Baltimore city charter high school.
