Christine Mallinson is an assistant professor in the interdisciplinary Language, Literacy, and Culture Program and an affiliate assistant professor in the Gender and Women's Studies Program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She received her Ph.D. in 2006 in Sociology & Anthropology, with concentrations in sociolinguistics and race, class, and gender inequality, from North Carolina State University, where she received her M.A. in English with a concentration in sociolinguistics in 2002. Her current interests are the scholarship of teaching and learning in sociolinguistics, variation in African American English in Washington DC and Baltimore, and the interface between sociolinguistics and social theory.
