Reunion (2007
- ongoing), digital video, audio
Reunion is
a collection of video and audio portraits of contemporary visual artists as they reflect
on a pivotal time in their lives, via
a common,
vernacular
type of
photograph: the high school yearbook portrait. Each artist was
asked to re-create the pose they took as a high school student
and hold it for an extended period of time on video. This nearly
static video image slowly merges with the photographic image
of their
younger self, suspending the portrait between past and present. Reunion can be presented in a grid arrangement, reminiscent of a yearbook page layout, or as single-channel video. Thus far, the project includes artists from Baltimore, MD, New York, NY and Québec, QC. Due to cultural differences in Québec, in some cases the photograph used was an informal snapshot of the artist as a teenager. |
