Discards (University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH), 2008, fifty pigment ink jet prints; Discards (Blaisdell Memorial Library, Nottingham, NH), 2005, pigment ink jet prints

The University of New Hampshire series consists of fifty prints displaying the front of the film cans that contain films discarded by this library system. Reduced to a title, the narrative content of these films must be projected and imagined by the viewer. These typed or handwritten labels convey the idiosyncratic side of an otherwise impersonal archive of objects. The Blaisdell Memorial Library series focuses on a collection of discarded film strips from a public library in New Hampshire. A nearly forgotten medium, the film strip is a 35mm strip of movie film shown as a still image sequence advanced manually frame by frame, thereby uniting medium with user in a concrete way.
