PGP - Legal Issues

The agreement between Phil Zimmerman, RSA and MIT makes PGP 2.6.2 available for non-commercial use. There is a commercial version, PGP 2.7, available for commercial use.

Do not give PGP to anyone outside the U.S.

Do not put PGP in a place (e.g. anonymous ftp) from which it can be accessed from outside the U.S. It is classified as a munition and subject to export controls as such.

There is a PGP version 2.6ui ("unofficial international") available overseas. It is compatible with the U.S. versions and can be used outside the U.S. to communicate with non-U.S. correspondents. Do Not Import It Into The U.S.!
