Australia 2009

We visited five cities during the two weeks in September: Sydney, Bathurst,
Canberra, Adelaide and Joondalup (north of Perth).

Sydney

Our first stop was in Sydney. It is a spectacular city with beautiful harbors and wonderful architecture.

In the park

Birds, bats, koala and kangaroo

The creatures were quite amazing. From beautiful birds, to cat-sized bats to koala and kangaroo - each was as fascinating as the last.

The bats are in the park in Sydney. At first we didn't realize they were bats, we saw a flutter in a tree and assumed it was a bird. As we approached we were first shocked and then fascinated to see the hundreds of bats hanging in the trees.

The next surprise in the park was the Cockatoos - they were huge, but very friendly.

We saw the Kangaroos and the Koala Bears in a park outside of Perth. Although not native to Western Australia, the Koala Bears seemed very comfortable in their surroundings.

Country roads

There were some pretty sites on the drive from Bathurst to Canberra. The gold fields are canola.

Canberra

We were in Canberra during the flower festival - called the Floriade.
