Birds
2010
New ZealandThe Kakapo is reported to be the world's
most critically endangered species of bird. It is not only the heaviest
Parrot but the world's only flightless and nocturnal Parrot. We took
this picture in the mountains of the south island. |
Western Australia
Splendid Wren
We found this bird in a remote part of a national park about 25 miles north of Perth. At first it was extremely shy but after we waited for awhile it almost seemed like he wanted us to take his picture.
This is a Narethra Bluebonnet - a very rare and endangered species.
Eastern Long Billed Corellas
Either escaped or released domestic pets, not native to WA.
Western Short Billed Corella
Native and common in WA.
Rainbow Lorakeet
This is a rather shy bird (at least around me) but I have seen them in the local park. They were apparently introduced into Western Australia in the early 1960s.
Port Lincoln Parrot
Also known as the 28 parrot because of its characteristic call. Pictures taken in Joondalup Park
Galah (or Rose Chested Cockatoo)
The Galah are common in the Joondalup area - we have seen them in the parks and even in the backyards of homes. They are also known as pink and grey cockatoos.
